My photographic and video practices come out of pilgrimage, ritual, and scrying/divinatory practices—mostly outdoors or in durational installations. Presenting myself to an environment or ritual space, using research and divination to determine appropriate offerings and auspicious timing, upon visiting a site or creating an installation, I initiate a conversation and request permission to proceed offering partnership in the endeavor to local sentient beings, both commonly-seen and commonly-Unseen-by-humans.
Making use of fluidly flexible silver-colored mirror surfaces and other reflective surfaces, frequently working with water both contained and free flowing, the practice is a type of scrying: I enter a light trance state of "Deep Listening" and photographs and video are recorded usually only focusing on what appears or shows itself in the reflected surfaces rather than directly "capturing" anyone/thing with the direct gaze. The videos are edited from multiple recordings, but use only concrete (found) sound and no digital special effects besides cropping and removing image and sound.
